21-22 August 2022
We start our journey back early in the morning, before the wind and the waves really put up. We tack in the bay of Ingaröfjärden, we have a hard time. We reach the islands of Kråkskär before we go out of patience and we sail on easy, sheltered waters between them. After that break, we have to make just one jump over open waters of the bay Jungfrufjärden – two miles against wind and the growing waves. Having passed that bay, we bear away and sail comfortably to south west along the coast of Ornö and Utö islands, that provide a shelter from the high seas.
The approach to Nynäshamn requires much concentration. We sail beside the fairway, as this is used by ferries. Just in front of the harbour entrance, we must get into the fairway, and two ferries catch up on us. We hope that they will turn north, towards the big ships harbour, but the Gotland ferry goes to the city centre, where the yacht marina is located too. So we experience big waves once more today – just when Agnieszka is on the bow deck preparing the mooring lines.
We will not sight-see the city of Nynäsham, it is already late. Next day, on Sunday, we sail away quite early, we need to reach Nyköping. Yesterday’s strong winds are just a memory, we have a smooth sailing today.
From this leg of our trip, we will remember magnificent views, especially in the strait between Landsort and islets on the outer side of it. Within few hours, we reach waters known to us, south of Ringsön. We are not even dismayed by the wind that changes against us.
We beat a little, we sail under engine a little more, and thus we reach our home port of Brandholmen.
