The Royal Club

16.- 20. August 2022

We get a good night’s sleep in the peaceful bay of Napoleonviken. We begin the day bathing and swimming in the bay.

After that we sail to Stockholm. I have to be in the office on Thursday and on Friday. This time we want to moor in a marina at this – eastern – side of the city, so as not to pass through the narrow straits again. We choose the Stockholm Royal Yachtclub (SKKK) marina in Saltsjöbaden, a commuter train provides a comfortable connection to the city centre from there.

The route from Napoleaonviken till the marina leads through some narrow straits, but these are well marked. There is a favourable wind, so we go under sail, but we keep the engine running as a precaution. The route for planned for today takes us just two hours. At the entry to the marina the stress begins. The marina is sheltered against waves, but the wind has a place to roam free, and there are many boats there. They moor not only at the quays but also at the anchor buoys all over the bay. We must manoeuvre between them just to see the guest quay. The places at that quay are sideways to the wind. So we get in with a considerable speed and moor quickly, before the wind can influence our mooring. We are done before the marina crew, who usually help with the mooring, reach us.

We stay here till the end of the week. I commute to the office by train from here. In the weekend, we should sail back to Nyköping. Weather forecast is not favourable. There should be a southerly wind – thus against us – with force of 6 Bft or stronger.
