First trips of 2022: midsommar in Trosa

Midsommar is one of the principal festivities in Sweden. This longest day of a year is in many companies a holiday. Technically, it is the beginning of the astronomical summer rather than its middle. This year also, the preceding days were rather cold, but just in time for the June 22nd, beautiful sunny days came. A disadvantage of this beautiful summer weather was a calm, we decided to go for an extended sail nevertheless. Our target was the town of Trosa, the closest bigger harbour when sailing towards the north.

We chose the route outside, rather than sailing through the passages between the islands, hoping for more wind and less stressful navigation. But even several miles away from the coast the wind was too weak for our use, so we turned halfway towards the land and entered the fairways between skerries. The fairways are well marked, but the helmsman is always busy navigating.

We spent the whole day in Trosa. Time for sightseeing

and for midsommar party. Boats, vodkas, singing, the shortest night – we were said this is the Swedish way.

We sailed back the same route as we came – partly between skerries, partly on the „open” sea. This time we had to use the engine too due to the lack of wind.

The route (here and back again roughly the same):
